THE ORGANISATION SERVING THE INTERESTS OF MAIZE, ITS PRODUCERS AND THEIR VALUE CHAINS
CEPM brings together trade and inter-trade organisations whose mission is to represent and defend in their respective countries the interests of all or part of the maize chain: corn, maize silage, maize seed and sweet corn. To fulfil these objectives, CEPM carries out monitoring, lobbying and communication activities, and makes concrete proposals.
ECONOMIC ACTITVITY AT EUROPEAN LEVEL, BUT ALSO AT INTERNATIONAL LEVEL
In addition to providing targeted and ad hoc support to its member organisations, CEPM takes initiatives – alone or jointly with COPA-COGECA – vis-à-vis the European institutions and in particular the European Commission on issues related to the maize economy and its means of production. Furthermore, it is a member of 5 Civil Dialogue Groups. International trade talks within the WTO, the Common Agricultural Policy and the EU budget, markets and price monitoring, new outlets and biofuels, plant protection, biotechnologies, GMOs and irrigation are the main issues falling within CEPM’s scope of action.
* COPA-COGECA: The organisations representing European farmers and European agri-cooperatives.
A TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
CEPM bases its economic arguments on expert studies carried out by specialised technical institutes in each Member State, and by the European Maize Committee. The latter, which periodically brings together maize silage experts from northern Europe (e.g. United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland), is represented within CEPM by its German member, DMK.
